I have always made popcorn on the stove, the old fashioned way. My mom made it that way, her mom made it that way, and now my girls are learning to make it too. Growing up, every Saturday night was “popcorn night”. We even had THE Popcorn Pot, and I called dibs on it when I grew up! I have such fond memories of Saturday nights, after bath time and jammies, running back downstairs to snuggle up with a movie and a big bowl of popcorn. It became a tradition, and now I am carrying it on with my kids, but with a twist!
A few years back I started making our popcorn with coconut oil because it withstands higher cooking temps. I only use organic popcorn, and we used to just salt it hot, out of the pan, and it was wonderful. But then a friend told me about adding a few drop of doTERRA Lime essential oil to a little additional coconut oil and drizzling that over the top! That was it! We’ve been hooked else since It’s super easy, and you get just a touch of the amazing qualities of Lime goodness in every bite.
Make sure you use a Lime oil that is able to be ingested. I only use doTERRA oils, because I trust their purity. If your essential oils do not say they can be ingested, please do not ingest them. Lime Oil supports the immune system, and is a great help with stress. It smells amazing and makes you happy just to breathe it in.
How To
I apologize in advance if you are one of those cooks that likes exact measurements and times. This is totally “by eye’ and you will get a feel for it. Heck, it may even be the gateway recipe to cooking freedom with a “dash of this” and “little of that”.
You will need:
- Coconut Oil
- Popcorn
- Salt
- Lime Oil
- Pot with a lid
Instructions:
- You want a large pan, I usually use my “Spaghetti Pot”.
- I use enough Coconut oil to give a generous coating on the bottom of the pan, about 3 large tablespoons.
- I use enough popcorn to coat the bottom of the pan with a single layer of kernels.
- Put on the top, turn up the heat, use potholders to shake and shimmy as it pops.
- When the popping slows down and seems like it is almost done, Dump into your biggest bowl which you will probably now refer to as the “Popcorn Bowl”!
- Melt about 2 T. of coconut oil, add 8-10 drops of Lime oil to it, stir and drizzle over the popcorn, mixing as you go.
- Salt to taste and Enjoy!
I love to enjoy my big bowl of popcorn with a tall glass of water (always use glass) with about 5 drops of citrus oils and 2-3 drops of stevia. My favorite combo is Lemon and Lime but lately, I have been loving Tangerine. Very refreshing! Now all I need is a good movie!
